What do we really need in a watch??

Honestly I think most of us can get buy with time only or a time/date watch. Yet so many of us buy
complicted watches, I am referring to the general watch buying public here. I personally don't
want a complicated watch, my eyes can't see the dial anyway. However there are a few
complications I could live with. an alarm watch would be nice, I have GMT watch but really
don't consider that a "complication". Have no need for a moon phase or a chronometer.
There is less to go wrong with a simple time only, time/date watch and may possibly need
less frequent service intervals Perpetual calendars are visual and mechanical marvels and
I can understand why people buy them, one just is not for me.
What complicated watch did you buy, and why?
