Well, the move to time only has been very strong in recent years.

In the independent world time only watches, albeit it more “complicated” time only watches and those finished at a higher level, seem to have dominated the market over the last several years.
Perhaps for those for whom complications on dials no longer make sense, due to poor / degrading eye sight and or the need to be a little more subtle with wrist choices, these more complex time only watches fill that gap.
At the end of the day whether it be a complication or a more complex way of achieving reliable consistent time keeping there are each about executing skills or know how and selling the dream to consumers.
It’s not what you are getting at, but the point of complications is mostly just to prove technical prowess. There is no practical point.
