Chopard LUC 1963 chronograph with manual wind in house caliber

After finally seeing and handling the new Chopard LUC 1963 manual wind chronograph, I understand what all the excitement is all about. The movement design is beautiful - so architectural, so three dimensional, so much depth. Finally, a movement to give the previously unparalleled Datograph a run for its money in the beauty of design department.

At first I was unsure about the hands - I usually prefer a high quality but simple hand design - thick perfectly finished baton hands; properly pitched alpha hands; or gracefully elegant feuille leaf hands, perfectly lengthed to dial details. But examining the unique hands of the 1963 LUC up close and under a loupe, I'm now a believer.

It goes without saying the dial, case and movement are superbly finished. The unique touches are what make it a standout. Bravo!

The 1963 is special in every detail. Next to the hands, the whole case is very special with its brushed side and the rounded shape of pocket watches... ...

In my humble opinion...

The PuristS Edition of the LUC 1963 Chrono looks 101X better than the 'standard edition'. An amazing design job. The lack of date is much to be preferred, the steel case, the black dial, everything is for the better and in a big way. Congrats to all invol...

Red chronograph hands better on the PuristS black dial

Same red hands seems to "overheats" the rose gold version ; I feel polished & heat blued chronograph hands would have been more appropriate.

101% agree with you Chris;)

And I read an article where Philippe Dufour put Lange and Chopard LUC's finishing ahead of Patek.

Mr Dufour placed ALS in 1st position, 2nd is Chopard, 3rd AP and Crédor Tie, and lastly PP

URL- Excerpt- VIW: I would like to know, which brands, after you, really do finish work on their movements in your opinion? I think it is very interesting because today, more and more clients want a perfect watch (even more when the price is an issue) in...

Still far from the Datograph

Well, one can like it and praise the finishing but, IMHO, it is hardly comparable with the perfection of the Datograph or any classic hand-wound caliber. Why? Because you really see that the Chopard chronograph movement was designed to be AUTOMATIC, i.e t...

I too don't quite 'get' it...

It's a very very nice watch, no argument, but I don't see why this is an uber collectors collector watch....to the degree that has been spoken about it... The story of the watch moves me very much. And I know the work and passion that has gone into creati...

A very decent effort by Chopard!
