The Flyback L.U.C ChronoOne Stainless Steel

Jul 03, 2009,05:30 AM

Viewed the ChronoOne Stainless Steel,
the Flyback Chronograph at the Boutique yesterday.

First impression  ...

The dial is straight-forward legible and good contrast.  Truly understated.
Have a wish at that moment, hoping the dial is enamel.
The look is right with the minute marker '40' in correct orientation.

A small part but important - complementing with the new reinforced and thicker
'Cousu Main' (hand-sewn) straps changed the tactile feel.
It feels more luxurious than the initial gold model with thin straps.

Next, the smooth positive feeling when actuating the chrono-pushers
accompanied by an elegant clink is simply a pleasure and Chronograph lovers
should try it for yourselves to believe and receive the gratification.
Above all, the value of this piece is very attractive.

Our friend, Soeren aka Axisskin has shared with us his purchase here ,
just add some close-up photographs for your viewing pleasure smile

For the specifications, please click here .

Case diameter 42mm and thickness is 13.20mm.
This stainless steel case version production quantity is limited to 500 pieces.

The dial is black with white radial-guilloched subdials.  A slight bluish tint is due to the double anti-reflective coatings.

Rhodium-plated Hour and Minute hands, hour-indexes are with Superluminova.

Date disc with black background, blend in with the dial.
(Great to see this change, as the press release showed a white background date disc)

The chronograph second hand is very steady and could indicate to quarter of a second.

The top surface of the caseband is brushed while the bezel is polished.
Nice contrasting appearance by varying the texture of the surfaces.

The magic push-buttons!

The L.U.C Calibre 11 CF with a 22K gold rotor...
Power reserve of 60 hours, with small-second reset on demand.  This movement hacks once the crown is pulled to the
second position.

The L.U.C Cal 11CF has 3 innovative systems which are patent pending.

(1) The reset function operates by means of a lever pivoting three supple hammers, thereby ensuring
optimal return of the counter hands and also cushioning the reset action (patent pending).

(2) The L.U.C Calibre 11 CF also includes a “small seconds reset” function combined with a movement stop feature
for a precise time setting (patent pending).  Similar to 'Saxon-matic of A. Lange & Sohne"  but with a choice at which period of the
entire minute you wish to set the time.

(3) the self-winding mechanism winds in both directions and comprises a unidirectional gear device (patent pending).
This system avoids the loss of energy, ensuring an optimal winding speed via the gold oscillating weight

The column wheel (on the left)...

The Variner  (Variable Inertia) Balance which normally used in L.U.C higher end (or priced) movements for
improved precision and is supported by a solid sturdy balance bridge for better shock resistance.

For more information of the working of the Variner Balance, please click here.

Comes with a steel deployant buckle.

And have to admit that I was positively impressed by the overall quality of this Chrono. Aesthetically speaking, it is a very elegant one. Mechanically, it is very appealing, too. And the in vivo feel is impressive: The feel of the pushers, the weight, th...

i only owned it for about 6 months and sold it as i wasnt overly impressed. it was a pre chronometer model which shows its age. looking at Chopard now they seem to be in a different league entirely. the finish is just excellent. if i didnt already own a f...

Different class ChronoOne

 By: MTF : July 5th, 2009-10:17
Graham, The LUC range is a different class from the Mille MIglia, although the MM range has moved upmarket. The original class difference is like Ford vs Aston Martin when both were owned by the same corporation. Recently, MM has started moving upmarket u...

Your pics are breathtaking! My husband and I are watch enthusiasts and he gave me a Chanel J12 last year for my birthday. I plan to reciprocate this year and hopefully get him something as beautiful as this Chopard Flyback.

Welcome Cblogaholic!

Congrats on the near indestructible J12 Did he give you the piece with a 3125 movement inside This piece is really a super piece, I'm pretty sure your hubby would be pleased if he loves chronograph. Top notch at honest pricing. Check it out, this piece is...

This is a very attractive watch! I actually prefer it over its precious metal counterpart with the open dials. It's interesting to me that Chopard has chosen to make this watch a limited run of 500, as opposed to a regular production model. I am increasin...

500 for steel case is ...

a smart move. If you are nearby to the ADs or boutique, please go in and have a look at the ChronoOne .in steel and gold case. Have a quick peek at the price...you will realise what I'm saying. Typically the amount of work to build a steel and precious me...

Kong, Was it now the Steel version we saw in the Chopard Boutique? Or the WG version? You know , I am getting seriously interested now in this piece. I should never have come to Singapore. Wim

This is the steel piece which arrived after the event :-)

Hi Wim This piece will be a good pair for your beautiful Minerva Kong

I definitely like the Tech over the Classic

 By: dxboon : July 11th, 2009-16:48
Hi Kong, IMO the dial on the Tech Regulator is much more interesting than that of the classic version. I like the skeletonized hands, the day/night indicator, and power reserve on the Tech so much more. This is not the first Chopard model I've felt this w...

Thanks Daos for the inputs....'Interesting' is the same keyword ...

 By: Kong : July 11th, 2009-21:11
I heard from a group of female friends and when probed further, their inputs were similar to yours! It seems like the Tech series has affinity with the Ladies, and probably L.U.C may need to think of a unique case-shape. Kong

That is one very nice Chronograph. [nt]

First class craftmanship....

 By: BHK9 : July 10th, 2009-08:55
Hi Folks, Can see from the back case, indeed they have put in alot of effort in up lifting the standard of craftmanship in it but true still remain as their are orginally from other background of aritsan. Keep it up,Chopard. BHK9

I would say....................

 By: VMM : July 11th, 2009-02:04
Impressive movement but it looks to me like a Datograph (silver subdials, blue dial, square pushers, that crown and the general look) so, nothing new and that deployants, when are they going to change them or improve them? Many problems, they open so easi...

Thanks Vte for the comments....deployant is secondary...

 By: Kong : July 11th, 2009-10:24
The 11 CF movement is a class of its own. Removing all the perception and placed it side by side the Dato, the 11CF ChronoOne is a Challenger. Just my observation. Kong

Of course!

 By: VMM : July 11th, 2009-11:02
About the deployant I agree that it's totally secondary but I've taken the opportunity to "complaint" because it's a new release, and can't understand why they don't fix it. Believe me it does not work properly. About hte movement as I said, just flawless...

Thanks Vte, get you...

 By: Kong : July 11th, 2009-21:02
You are not the only one having issue with the deployant. Kong

Frankly as I posted before, I prefer Chrono one to Dato

 By: happyguy1688 : July 11th, 2009-22:30
and that feeling is further enhanced / confirmed at the recent Chopard event in Hong kong. If Chopard can make me a customs dial and hands, I'll definitely take the plunge.

Interesting!

 By: amanico : July 11th, 2009-22:49
Can you elaborate? I feel we'll have a superb discussion! Seriously, the movement in the Chopard is nice ( and very nice, should I say! ), but far from the level of the Dato, ad it is an automatic one, not a manual, which aesthetically, is maybe less inte...

What I prefer is the feel of chrono operation, a big advantage

 By: happyguy1688 : July 13th, 2009-10:36
is non-jumping chrono hand (of course all vertical clutch chrono have such advantage) and the feel and response of all the pushers are just silky smooth. Of course aesthetically, the Lange movement and dial of the 1815 chrono are more attractive to me but...

That's one sexy watch
