However I would disagree. Everyone’s idea of beauty is different but I have always imagined them as peaceful giants. They are clean energy and the farmers in this area of California ( Vallejo and Fairfield) do get money for these. Coal power acid rain kil...

Yes, I agree the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, however as it was debated in a previous post not long ago, this peaceful giants cause way more damage than is publicized!

Also, personally I would prefer farmers to produce natural food instead of getting payed not to do so…

Hahaha! ;)

They can be quite mesmerising to watch and I find them more attractive than pylons and wires.

And if turbines help stop the lights going out then so be it! All the best, Jon

Very cool pictures

I find them far more attractive than a coal fired power station …

And a small price to pay for providing us with clean energy.

If birds had a say...

they would protest many other things first... "Results show that the onset of shale oil and gas production reduces subsequent bird population counts by 15%, even after adjusting for location and year fixed effects, weather, counting effort, and anthropic ...

If you're really looking not measurable means none killed. Besides if you are one of the birds who met it's demise by flying into a turbine blade you're not around to do any

measuring. Or if you're one of the birds who is instantly vaporized by a thousand mirrors focused on an elevated tank you just happened to fly by. Another fun "fact" is that cats are what kills the most birds. Which cats? What birds are we talking about? ...

So let’s keep all our coal fired plants then and kill a million times more birds than windmills. Let’s frack the land and destroy bird habitats.

My bet is evolution will have its say and most birds of prey here in Northern California will eventually learn to avoid them. Look up white moths turning into black moths in industrial age London.

And let's make sure we keep natural gas in the same category as coal. Not a great plan for gaining credibility with supposedly green energy. We're just swapping out one type

of planet unfriendliness for another. Until we master fusion electric everything will not be the solution that's being advertised but is providing a lot of new money making opportunities.

No measurable impact means the species will thrive successfully even counting a particular number of deaths.

Environmentalists can’t have it both ways. You can’t have some form of clean energy without trade-offs I’m atraid. Hydroelectric power needs reservoirs which depletes natural habitats. Solar power farms can fry birds if they fly close enough. There is no ...

Besides compromising or killing wildlife wind and solar are also degrading huge swaths of beautiful land but we've now found some common ground. There is no free lunch

when it comes to energy. Hopefully, fusion eventually becomes the answer but until then I think we need many sources and should let the free market drive technological advances... or less people.

Yes,

 By: Henke : April 10th, 2024-04:26
I'm sure that if the bird didn't get instantly vaporised by the focusing mirrors (on a wind turbine? Hang on, what are we talking about again?) they would totally be able to measure these things. But to answer your question, nowhere does the source say, o...

All I was trying to convey is that solar also has issues with wildlife. I've always cared a lot about every critter on this planet. Statistics can be crafted to reach any preferred

conclusion. So I'm suspicious of everything I hear or read. I try to look at (and research) all subjects, then use the best fecal filter I can employ to come to my own conclusions.

Indeed

Human activity in general has a profoundly negative effect on wildlife! That's an unfortunate point we can never get away from. It is never choosing between absolute positive and absolute negative, but rather between more bad and less bad... But just beca...

Also a very good point-

 By: Henke : April 10th, 2024-14:55
So logically, surely you must disregard all studies supporting oil and gas, as they would have much more money and influence to fund these studies, having accumulated and entrenched their position over the past hundred years? This is speaking from experie...

Ah but the percentage of birds killed by these is significantly less by birds killed by air pollution and acid rain in this country. It’s not even close.

These blades are big enough and slow enough that most Swainson’s and Red Tail hawks here in north central California will avoid them. Also each successive generation will learn not to go near them.

Thanks!😊
