Evolution of pusher shape on LUC 1963 Chronograph

FrX,

Yes...obviously the "travelling" strap for that watch is the Classic Racing leather strap that has no CITES restriction. The standard Vintage LUC strap is Alligator leather and too difficult to tranport across international borders quickly between exhibitions from London to Paris and then to Greater Los Angeles.

Although the Vintage LUC strap matches best with the LUC 1963 Chrono HW PuristS' Edition, there may be a reason why the Classic Racing strap also works.

The first drawings had solid oval block pushers similar to the round blocks on this Mille Miglia 2014 Chronograph.
As Chopard's first hand wind (HW) chronograph, we felt the need to draw upon the design motifs of 1963, when the Scheufeles bought the company.
The pushers had to fit with Roman numerals.

The next suggestion was a stem pusher for a vintage-style HW chronograph with connotations of motor racing but obviously not with piston rings as seen on this Jacky Ickx model..

How do we incorporate elements of classic racing and vintage manual chronographs but still be distintively LUC 1963?

We could not have a contemporary 'integrated' crown guard and pusher assembly as that is a Superfast motif.

The solution is what we have now on the watch: a round-head stem pusher that is more elegant than on the previous Chopard Vintage Chronograph.
The pusher head less bulky and manages to portray the LUC positioning but still fulfil the timing of races that was the raison d'tetre of chronographs.
Also, both styles of straps may be used.

I'm not even goung to describe the design 'angst' we had with the mushroom pushers........

Regards,
MTF

Today I was very fortunate to wear these 3 watches: The LUC Engine One H: A very impressive watch, totally different from the "vertical" one. I don't know how to explain it but I find it more original than the other version. Shall I need to introduce this...

Fantastic! I agree that the Engine One H seems somehow even more special, though I like both versions very much. And the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 is very cool. I must admit, though, that the racing strap on the 1963 Chrono Purists Version would not be...

CaliforniaJed, The Classic Racing strap works on our LUC 1963 Chrono HW PuristS' Edition although the Vintage LUC strap matches best. There is a reason for this and it is explained in a sub-thread to the original posting by FrX. It has to do with the shap...
