Dear forumners,

What do you want to know?

Call for questions........

Whilst researching the next PuristS article about CHOPARD Japanese lacquer (urushi) Picture (maki-e) Dial technique, I came across better photos of the latest CHOPARD XP watch for 2015 Year of the Goat (sheep).

I also found a more recent photograph of the urushi master artisan since our last meeting in 2010.

The watch was announced before Chinese New Year, or strictly speaking, it was Lunar New Year for many Asian cultures.

Although we see the rose gold model in photos, it is also available in white gold case variant.

Ref. 161902-5060 – in 18-carat rose gold with special “Year of the Goat” dial

Ref. 161902-1028 – in 18-carat white gold with special “Year of the Goat” dial

Master Minori KOIZUMI of Yamada Heiando studio

I will come back with a more in-depth report about lacquer maki-e dials for CHOPARD in the near future.

It will have technical input from Yamada Heiando for a credible summary.

What do you want to know?

Regards,

MTF

Japan and Hong Kong boutiques must have the largest selection of CHOPARD XP Urushi watches. Maki-e (making pictures) is truly an Art-form..... Do you have any questions? Regards MTF ...

This one may be difficult to answer, MTF, but do we know

how/why Chopard chose to make a watch with an Urushi dial in the first place? They have certainly done so in a big way, and indeed these dials are truly exquisite, particularly in the metal. Best, CaliforniaJed

Beautiful dial!
