Chopard Mille Milgia ZAGATO Collection

Oct 22, 2013,10:59 AM

Two pieces for automotive lovers, and especially with ZAGATO, the Milanese Car Design powerhouse.  Zagato initial business since 1919 was in constructing and repairing of bodies for automobiles and airplanes.  Later, Zagato applied the know-how of sophisticated construction of aeronautics, combining of lightness and strength to the automobiles they designed and constructed.  The list of cars(brands) which ZAGATO had projects with, is impressive, namely -  Abarth, Alfa Romeo,  Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lancia, Lamborghini, Maserati, Rolls Royce and many more.

Two versions for the Mille Miglia ZAGATO Collection - Steel case with DLC coating while the other is Steel case DLC coated with gold bezel.

Let have a look at the Steel DLC (Diamond-like-carbon) coating version.

42.5 mm diameter steel case with dual surface polishing - gloss and brushed then DLC coated for tougher wear resistance.

3 sub-dials : 30-minute counter at 12H, small second at 9H and 12-hour counter at 6H.

Red-arrow-hand is chronograph second-hand, and white arrow-hand is GMT (second-timezone) hand.

Red stitching on Barenia calf leather straps, seemed to be  ZAGATO design signature which could be seen in the Aston Martin V12 ZAGATO.
(Some interesting pictures of the interior of Aston Martin V12 ZAGATO in one of our automotive posts, click here to view more )

Red-rubberised pusher for chronograph start-stop.

Silver dial with etched ZAGATO motifs.

The 7mm diameter screw-down crown is also marked with ZAGATO motif too.
Solid DLC coated caseback  with Special ZAGATO Edition limited to 500 pieces engraved.

Movement within is the robust Valjoux 7754.

DLC coated steel deployant buckle.

Second version - comes with 18K gold bezel with red aluminium insert  and red-top 18K gold pusher ...

Black dial with etched Zagato motifs.

Perhaps the 'GMT' should not be printed at the 6H subdial.  However, the 12-hour counter could also be used for time-keeping too though.

Exceptional clarity for easy readout, as the sapphire crystal is double anti-reflective coated.

Similar solid caseback as the above model.

Which appeals to you more? smile

For me, the one with red bezel and gold pusher.

"Sings" more to me. Despite the fact that I would like it moe if it had the GMT hand on another color to make it more visible. I can feel a Chopard on my future. Thank you Kong for the nice inter to this line. Cheers, Nilo

I tend to agree with you, Nilo, perhaps just the tip of the arrow, instead of the stem. The challenge is what colour as it seems like they try to keep to red & white...perhaps red stripes on white base. Thanks for viewing. Kong

Tough choice between Chopard Mille Miglia GMT Zagato versions

The metallic red bezel version has a black dial and I have always maintained that chronograph dials should be white markers on black dial. (Rule 1) The touch of metallic red on the bezel has instant 'showroom appeal' - to use motoring-speak - but in the l...

view them in steel :-) The incremental price difference of the 18K gold bezel and pusher is pretty honest. Kong
