It's 10th year of my working life, so i'd like to get a reward for myself.(a.k.a. "an excuse") I've never thought of a watch, especially in diving-style, at the beginning... I have four in rotation already!(speak for my wife) However, after visiting Pita's workshop in Barcelona, and tried the Oceana, i confirmed i want one! It's too bad that Pita didn't have Oceana in stock, or i would get one on my hand already!
After the holidays in Spain, i started looking for the candidates. I've read about the Chopard LUC Pro One GMT(black and orange) in this forum, but not impressed by the photos... Eventually, i've shortlisted JLC Master Compressor Diving and IWC Aquatimer 2000.
I love JLC, and i own 34mm Master UltraThin and Atmos clock. I've no doubt on their caliber design, but their dial layout put me off frequently. I'm okay with the MCD dial, it's nice to have touch of blue also. But i do want the second hand back!
For the IWC, the outlook is masculine, the black/yellow tone is attractive, and the dual colour lume is great! I don't like to have an ETA "heart" however. I've highly modified 2892 and 7750 already. And that's why i chose Omega Co-axial DeVille over a Portofino as my first watch. While searching for more reviews, i've found a local shop that has both Aquatimer Chronograph "Galapagos Islands", previous version Aquatimer 2000 in titanium and Chopard LUC Pro One Cadence. I was worried 44mm would be too big for my 6.25 wrist... So i went there to have a try. Well, the 44mm Aquatimer is really too big for me, the old Aquatimer was not singing to me either. The shop owner let me try an Explorer I, but once i took in hands, i've returned it. Finally, i tried the Pro One...The whole watch is solid built. The diamond-shape indices have good contrast with the white dial. The sun-beam deco around "Chopard" makes the dial more dynamic. The mirror and satin surfaces on the case and bracelet are beautiful. The date window magnifier is on the bottom of the crystal, no ugly "water drop" on the surface.Though no display back(good for diving watch), i know the caliber is gorgeous!(I've touched a Tech Twist in an auction preview, the LUC caliber is purely wonderful! The dial is too "hip" for my taste though)When this beauty sitting on my wrist, i could not let she go. And what's more, although the previous owner has the watch for over 3 years, it is still "like new" and not many marks are shown, even on those high-glossy surfaces! However, i realized that it's hard to capture the beauty of this watch when i'm holding my camera. So i could just try my best to post a few that supplement Stefan's great shots, for some details i would like to share:1. Sun-beam deco
2. Date window magnifier
3. Soldered crown guard
4. Butterfly clasp with safety lock
5. Details of the bracelet
6. Lume view
Last but not least... Wrist shot:
Thanks for watching!!
