Are these one of a kind and Japan only? Boutique editions? Thanks for this thread.

Yes, one of a kind for Japan market, but understand many ...

overseas orders by non-Japanese Yes, only available in Japan Chopard Boutiques. Kong

Truly magnificent, these pieces are truly desirable.

 By: patrick_y : August 27th, 2009-11:54
Although I'm a big fan of Urushi combined with Maki-e arts. I actually find the urushi-only model "The Ultimate Universe" to be an extremely desirable piece. In this piece, no particular draws all the attention and thus the dial is a simple underwhelming ...

I follow your train of thought!

I prefer the 'Ultimate Universe' too.

My favourite...

 By: yesjb : August 27th, 2009-16:46
is the Ultimate Universe. The black on black with subtle additions of colour highlights is the ultimate elegance of this art form, gracious, restrained yet powerful. Its really an astounding design. The phoenix takes second place. Its more active but the ...

Indeed ton-sur-ton ....

 By: Kong : August 28th, 2009-11:50
Hi Joseph The ton-sur-ton of the 'Ultimate Universe' is really stunning. Looking forward to the high-res pics to have a closer look. Glad to hear from you again. Kong

Weren't these dials used on the Speake Marin models?

 By: nwk00 : August 27th, 2009-18:25
I always thought they were unique and one off pieces.

Nah, Peter uses a different artist...

 By: Tim Jackson : August 27th, 2009-22:05
His Maki-e dialed watches are unique pieces. See below: First, "Hungry for Time" Another shot of "Hungry for Time" And here is the "Eternal Phoenix" Peter only does one off pieces using a Maki-e artist for the execution of the dial. Hope this clarifies, C...

Similar techniques, and ...

end of the days, it is dependent on skill, experience and credential of the artists/craftsmen behind the work. Still waiting for some higher resolution pictures meanwhile. Kong

Kylins in the moonlight.

Eagerly looking to see the caseback too ....

Hi Lien Above is the description from Chopard Japan. I'm waiting for the pictures to be ready. Kong

The Kylins is a very classic piece...

 By: patrick_y : August 28th, 2009-12:39
The Kylins features a somewhat classical motif to them. I too truly appreciate the Kylins piece. I truly appreciate all of them all very much! They're all very good.

I am partial to the tiger and dragon dials.

The entire lineup is truly spectacular. I love the way Chopard has chosen to showcase these traditional Japanese art forms. Thanks for presenting them to us, Kong! Cheers, Daos

Kong, very nice maki-e dials.

I still remember PSM's turtle and crane maki-e dial. I missed the chance to own it. May I know the retail price? Regards Ling

Yes, impressive...

 By: Kong : August 29th, 2009-00:28
the retail is 1,995,000 yen. Reasonable? Lead time, about 3 months during summer....as now approaching winter...could be longer, as it takes a longer time for the urushi to dry. Kong

The retail price is actually reasonable

 By: ling5hk : August 29th, 2009-03:25
Even without discount, it is actually cheaper than some plain enamel dial watches. Urushi and maki-e appear to require more time to complete. Regards Ling

Thanks for the post. My choice is the Ultimate Universe. Kind of "stealthy" but really Japanese. Traditionally, it reminds me of the Tsuba sword guards. Aloha, Bob

'Stealthy' indeed...

 By: Kong : September 1st, 2009-23:27
Hi Bob Nice to hear from you. One day, one brand may design case-shape like Tsubas However, it may be interesting to have a Tsuba-dial series now....since Seiko Ananta has started with the blade inspired design. Kong

Hi Kong,

 By: masterspiece : September 4th, 2009-00:04
I would LOVE to see a tsuba designed dial. Yes, the Ananta line is designed like the blade of the sword. The rotor, on the other hand, is supposed to be designed after the tsuba but, after looking at it, to me, it's a stretch to see the tsuba. Looks more ...

Thanks.....

 By: MiniCooper : September 6th, 2009-09:50
for posting....I would prefer the tiger model Cheers

Very nice dials....
