Rare sight - Mille Miglia Vintage 161889-5002 with Lemania 1874

Mar 03, 2009,03:58 AM

Last week, a piece arrived in Singapore.

Seldom I see this piece of Mille Miglia Vintage in shops.  Typically available in either Black or
White dial in RG case  (limited production of 250 pieces each).

This piece is a new slate grey!

Understand this watch is inspired by a vintage car dashboard design and likely to be in period
of 1950 to 1960.

It is pretty challenging to photograph so as not to over-power the slate-sunburst dial.

The pictures were taken with flash and without flash, just daylight... there is a slight difference.

Casing is RG 41 mm diameter.  Took with flash.

Closer look...gold lining were on the subdials and the chapter ring for the tachometer and pulsometer scales.

Flash not used, just the daylight through the windows.

Using the daylight to highlight the white-lettering 'embossed look' printing.

The dial was still readable as the sapphire was anti-reflective coated ( 1 layer).

The pushers and the unsigned crown are of 18K gold.

The crown diameter is at a comfortable 8mm while the pushers are 5 mm.

30 pulsation - pulsometer scale and tachometer scale of 60 to 300 km/h.
Minute and hour hands and the raised hour-indices are applied with Superluminova.

Applied hour marker for '12'.

Note the depth, the dial to the casing edge.
It gives a 3D effect with the raised hour islets, applied marker '12' , the3 raised sub-rings and the outer ring with the
hands hovering above them.

The hands

Total thickness is 12.2 mm and water resistant to 30m.

Open caseback displaying the Lemania 1874 manual winding integrated chronograph.
3Hz (21,600vph) with a power reserve of 50 hours.

Chopard has re-finished the components ...

The straps are of  hand-stitched crocodile leather with a 18K RG buckle.

Can't wait to see it in the flesh. No shots of the white dial? Thanks Kong Lionel

The layout of the dial, colour of the dial, nice case and of course stunning vintage movement are my cup of the tea. Hopefully, I get to see one in flesh. Then, ... Regards Ling

I saw a picture of this watch with a white dial in the catalogue

and wanted to ask you what was the movement underneath. Glad it is a stunning Lemania 1874 refinished by Chopard. WOW! Does the white dial comes with sunburst as well? Cause the picture looks like lacquer/ceramic effect. I think Chopard should issue chron...

Now this is truly a piece to post on this site and share... Rare, it definitely is. Beyond nice, it definitely is as well. Those photos of the back were almost "magical". Thanks for sharing as I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did...

Thanks Kong, I've always admired this watch. The slate sunburst dial adds depth and fascination to this really tasteful, classic piece.

possibly the nicest Mille Miglia i've seen in years.

i've not been a fan of the newer models since i owned a 2001 model, but this is great. there's something about a 'vintage' chrono that takes a lot of beating. does the 1874 have any relationship too the Omega 861? it looks very similar although this one i...

This vintage design has hit a chord with many ...

The Lemania 1874 movement, if I'm not wrong was related to Omega 866 for the Pro Moonphase and may have updated to 1866 currently. Kong

Chopard's MM

This I fell in love at first sight. I own a L.E. MM from year 2000 with black dial. But, this one with grey dial...... I am coming over to Singapore! Thanks Kong for sharing. Best Regards - PeterZ

Lemania Calibers

 By: patrickau : March 6th, 2009-00:21
If I am not mistaken, the Omega 861 is also known as Lemania 1873. From what I read on the web, the 1874 is the decorated-and-without-plastic-part version of 1873. Used in Omega 863 and 864(c.o.s.c). Feels like a moonwatch with a different brand, ah? If o...

Patrick, i may be wrong,...

Patrick, i may be wrong, but i think Longines and Tissot made watches with the same Lemania based calibre as the 861, but i'm not aware of anyone else with a 321 calibre. best Graham

Graham, SteveG has a "Lemania" brand watch with a Lemania 2310. He has written a review and here are some photos "borrowed" from the article. (Google - SteveG Watch Launchpad). This article also shows a few newer watches from Patek, Vacheron and Breguet w...

Coincidentally, I was walking in the IFC mall yesterday and this piece caught my eye from the window. I had not seen it before, and it was instantly recognizable as different from any Chopard Chrono that I know of. Today I was in Pacific Place, and there ...
