Chopard WOW #6
Aug 13, 2014,15:08 PM
The Chopard Watch of the Week this week is SteveG's L.U.C 16/1860/2, and I think it only fitting that the first image of this WOW #6 be the movement. It's not that the dial is anything less than stunning, but the Calibre 1.96 Iand, frankly, SteveG's lovely images thereof) first drew me to Chopard -- so much so that the first in my own humble Chopard collection was the16/1860/1 in yellow gold, identical to SteveG's but for the half-hunter case of the 16/1860/1.
And the dial:
What can I say? I've written before that the guilloché in this dial is virtually luminous. In SteveG's image above, you can see exactly what I mean. Note, too, how the shape of the markers from this early L.U.C has been carried all the way through to the newest L.U.C models. Check them out, for instance, on the seconds subdial of the new L.U.C 1963 Chronometer:
Those early 16/1860s were a marvelous beginning for L.U.C. That their DNA carries through all these years later to the 1963 Chronometer (and also the 1963 Chronograph if you examine its dial) is a testament to how much KFS and Chopard put into the design, and how strong the DNA truly is.
Thanks once again, SteveG, for your fantastic contributions to the Chopard Forum over the years!
Best,
CaliforniaJed
