Rev Up with the Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2011 (Live Pics)

May 12, 2011,22:02 PM

The Mille Miglia, the “world’s greatest road race”, as Enzo Ferrari called it, has started on the roads of Italy from yesterday May 12 to 14, 84 years after its inception and Chopard has sponsored and participated in this classic race since 1988.

Along the historic route from Brescia to Rome and back, 375 cars— selected from over 1,400 requests—built between 1927 and 1957 will challenge each other and themselves. They will cross 7 regions of Italy, 177 towns, and 1 foreign state (San Marino) passing through some of the most picturesque areas of the Italian landscape.

For this 24th year, Chopard has issued a Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2011, for the press release, please click here and to view the compilation of the past issued pieces from 1988, please  click here .

Below are some pictures of the 2011
Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono  to commemorate the race with 2,011 pieces of steel cases and 250 pieces in Rose Gold variation.

Steel case of 44mm.
In the press picture, the perlage decoration (which is also on the 2010 Edition) on the dial did not show, as it is pretty challenging to shoot with the subtle stippling finishing showing with the black coating.

Multi-layered dial construction with the hour markers '6 and 12' printed on the second-surface of the anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

Three sub-dials with unmistakeable marking indicating the Chrono-Hour (6H), small Second (9H) and Chrono Minute (12H).

A facelift for the pushers with 'accelerator-pad' pattern engraved ...

Signed crown with the Mille Miglia logo ...

A change with the rubber change from previous year.  The 2011 Mille Miglia will come with seamless integrated straps flowing out from the case instead of having a gap at the lug-areas.

Continuous flow profile line  from top pusher to the bottom pusher ...

Caseback with the serial number engraved.

An  imprint on the second surface, which is odd as the press release mentioned the sapphire is anti-reflective coated.

This proto piece I snapped did not seem to be coated and pretty strange to have a see-through caseback with a large opaque imprint blocking the movement.

Movement is a Valgranges A07.211, COSC Certified.

A final picture which illustrated the presence of the perlage decoration done on the dial which is similar to the decorations found on some of the dashboard panels of the vintage race cars.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

More Racing Pieces on the way .....stay tuned.
