Chopard and Porsche Motorsport: The Return to Le Mans 2014 part 2

Previously, we featured the Chopard Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Edition watch at Le Mans 2014 [CLICK following URL link to read]

When I grow up, I want a shirt with my name on it.....  wink

Even before the partnership with Porsche Motorsport, Chopard has been associated with motor sports like the contemporary Mille Miglia series, Grand Prix de Monaco Historique,  Moscow Classic Weekend Rally, Haciendas Classic Chopard Rally etc.

It shows in the special Chopard watches they issue.

There are Jacky Ickx editions of the Chopard Mille Miglia watches in celebration of Mr LeMans  6 wins in the 24H race.

This one has been shortlisted for the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPdHdG) 2014 "Petite Aiguille" Prize:

Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Chrono.

For Chopard, its a "family" affair as friends and family banded together in support of this new venture with Porsche Motorsport.

We counted ourselves lucky to be part of that band.

Christine Scheufele, Mark Webber and Caroline Scheufele.

Mark Webber wears Chopard watch.

Band of Friends and Family at Chopard.

During the race, I had time to reflect on the association that Chopard has with motorsports. It was a l-o-n-g race and there were periods of monotony, when nobody semed to gain or lose positions. It was then very obvious that the sponsors like Porsche and Chopard were involved with endurance racing for something else other than winning.

Don't get me wrong; winning is the ultimate goal but the process and precision of endurance racing seems to be both the quest and raison d'etre of participation.

It was not always smiles. It was not always champagne time. It was literally bloody hard work with bruised knuckles, broken bodies and recalcitrant mechanicals.

Look ma!  No hands.......

Does my arse look fat in this?

O-o-u-c-h-h   There goes the insurance no-claims bonus!

Everything in endurance racing and watchmaking is about precision and longevity to be fit for purpose.

Special materials and techniqies are used; not for show but for function.

Carbon fire with E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G, sir?

When you succeed, your name is remembered for posterity.

Like these former race winning Porsche cars at Lemans...

No - those are just the emergency vehicles and merely Audi, VW or Renault branded.

These are the real deal Porsche winners......

Race preparation can be virtual....

Success means a brand new Chopard Superfast watch from Mr Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and photo-opportunities.

The END...

After 24H, the flags wave and audience seemed remarkably cheerful despite the lack of sleep and surfeit of food and drink.

Me?  I'm marking the time until my next proper bath and wish I had a wall clock like this.

Thanks for "watch-ing".

Regards,
MTF

You really captured the energy of the event, and the excitement on KFS' and his family's faces. Fantastic photos of the cars, too. Though, in the end, this is my favorite from your post. Best, CaliforniaJed ...

Greetings from Geneva

Yes...I like that photo best too...obviously as PuristS, we are moved by community spirit. As demonstrated bythe PuristS on Tour 2014 happening right now with members of our community from 3 continents visiting some factories in Switzerland. More soon.......
