My thoughts were buried deep in original post

Jed,

My original post may have been TOO long because somewhere  in the middle, I buried my meandering thoughts about sponsorship deals in general and for Chopard in particular.  People may have jumped straight to the Porsche 919 car and watch photos, and who can blame them for being excited?  wink

The section starts with the following paragraph:

"Sponsorship Deals

I wanted to get deep into the reason and rationale for the partnership.

Our fora abound with criticism by some observers about sponsorship deals and celebrity watch editions. We see famous names paraded out with the watches at prize-giving ceremonies at Wimbledon Centre Court, Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg or the Academy Awards (Oscars).

We see celebrities switch allegiance from JLC to Tag-Heuer or from Tag-Heuer to Rolex or Audemars Piguet to Richard Mille.

What is the value of such sponsorships to the brands, for the celebrity and to the watch buyer? ................"

When I heard about the Chopard - Porsche Motorsport partnership, I was not surprised because of Chopard's and the Scheufeles' long association with motorsports since 1988 with Mille Miglia Race, Grand Prix de Monaco Historique,  Moscow Classic Weekend Rally, Haciendas Classic Chopard Rally etc.

I was more surprised and excited about Porsche Motorsport returning to LMP1 category at Le Mans!

Regards,

MTF

Chopard and Porsche Motorsport: The Return to Le Mans 2014 Karl-Friedrich Scheufele of Chopard with Jens Walther, CEO of Porsche Motorsport of North America On 14 - 15 June 2014, the 82nd 24 Hours of Le Mans (24 Heures du Mans) automobile endurance racing...

The Superfast is beginning to grow on me, and that's my favorite one yet!

There is a lot of texture there, and color, which are not usually my aesthetic choices. But this watch has a nice wrist presence -- I tried on a Superfast not long ago, and the movement is, of course, in house, very much derivative of the Chrono One. Best...

New Chopard automatic chronograph movement

 By: MTF : August 16th, 2014-15:38
The new automatic chronograph Chopard 03.05-M calibre is indeed in-house manufactured in Fleuriers. It is positioned between the LUC 10CF movement in the LUC Chrono One watch and the outsourced ETA 2894-2 based movement in the Mille Miglia range of watche...

Seems like a perfect match, no?

Given Chopard's close ties to racing, and Porche's brand values: quality, performance, luxury I would say, the two companies seem an ideal match to me. Your thoughts, MTF? Best, CaliforniaJed

Sorry, MTF -- you caught me skimming through rather than reading closely!

Looks like we are in fundamental agreement, then, as to the relationship with Porshce, and it will be interesting to watch it grow. As for celebrity endorsements, much has been said in various PuristSPro threads concerning the subject. My thoughts mirror ...
