The 2011 L.U.C Engine One TourbillonS

Sep 08, 2011,10:17 AM

After last year successful debut, the dialess LUC Engine One Tourbillon (EoT) continues with another two variations this year, with two more striking colour combinations.

The 2010 sober design appealing to those who prefer a more classic and understated piece which is relevant even for business setting.

To view more of the 2010 L.U.C EoT, please  click here.

For 2011, the first variation - Ref. 169526-3003 is supposedly a limited 100 pcs Black Edition.

The sleek 44.40mm X 35.40mm X 10.90 (h) mm polished titanium casing is treated with matt Titalyt® coating, making it more like darker shade khaki or charcoal coloured under certain lighting condition.
More interesting than black,
giving it a  more sporty military look and well matched with the bright contrasting orange markers and hands.

Guest the black minute-track was added to simulate the on-board tachometer.  My personal preference, is without the minute track like the first L.U.C EoT. Cleaner look and not suffocating.

With the black minute-markers, it seems more cluttered and illusion of the suspended engine-block were subdued.

7mm titamium crown also with Titalyt® coating for a homogenous look.  The signed logo should be laser engraved.

The fender-lugs are milled separately and  bolted onto the central part of the case with four screws per side.

The double anti-reflective coating provides superior clarity through the sapphire crystal.

The hour and minutes markers are 'engraved' on the second-surface of the sapphire crystal and then filled with orange paint providing a floating 3-D effect.

This prototype piece the orange-hour markers are not luminescent.

Will be interesting if they are coated with SuperLuminova, but may challenge of how to deposit the inks consistently.

Power reserve indicator with luminescent coated tip ...

Note the high definition of the sapphire engraving process.... the digit "3" are so well defined!

A side view, notice the sapphire crystal is cambered .

The profile of the titanium bezel also mirrored the camber of the sapphire.

Super clarity from every viewing angle, showing the depth of the multi-layered construction.

Manual winding movement  L.U.C 1TRM of dimension 34.00 mm X 25.90mm specially designed and shaped to fit into the EoT case.  Something really commendable for L.U.C.
Other companies would use an outer rectangular-holder to hold a round movement to fit into this shaped case.

Brides are decorated like racing-circuits.

The
black rhodium treated movement is suspended and secured at three points with shock-absorbers elastomers.  The engine-block shaped L.U.C 1TRM has a power reserve of 60 hours and beat at 28,800VPH.  The tourbillon carriage (at 6H) makes one revolution in 60 seconds.

The case water-resistance rating remains at 50 metres.

Pairing this Black L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon, is a luxurious hand sewn black alligator leather strap lined with brown alligator leather and a titanium pin-buckle. The strap is with cut-out to facilitate ease of swapping straps.

For the Second variation of the L.U.C EoT - 168526-3002, a white 100-piece limited edition with red eye-catching markers.

Who says L.U.C does not have any watch for the Ladies?
Just switching to a
trendy white strap, Ladies may go ga-ga over it.  Should the gentlemen wish to wear,  changing to a darker strap should help.  A versatile couple-piece smile

Case is polished titanium.

Markers and hands are in red with white minute-track.

Polished signed crown like the first model.

Strap could drop perpendicularly and should fit and seat well  for smaller wrists.

As the L.U.C EoT is without a dial, the surface decoration has to be top-notch.  Observe the superb beveling at power reserve indicatpr plates...

Movement seems to be white Titalyt® coated and the wordings on the bridges are in red, consistent with the whole theme.

Wrist Shots

Perhaps for the gentleman, the white should not be with suit.  Casual wear may be suitable.

Looks good on petite lady's wrist !  And White is pretty cool !

Weight of the Titanium L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon

This watch is inspired by sportscars. Associating to today's supercars, most are with build with light composite materials to reduce the weight.
For watches, titanium is the current popular choice of low density and strong metal for lightweight watches.

Just how light are the EoT?  Previously was given a figure of 69 grams... however my scale indicated they are even
light with straps and buckle on - about 60 grams!

Next, the yellow version,  a UNIQUE piece done by L.U.C for the coming ONLY WATCH auction in next fortnight.

Before clicking away, do turn on the volume and feel the power of the tourbillon cage revolves for 60 seconds smile

So which version attracts you most?  And would you wear the white version?

Thanks for viewing.

Kong

Great looking watch!

I really like it a lot, all the versions. I think it's a successful execution of the dialess concept. It looks great on the man's wrist but imho, is just a tad big for a woman's wrist. Some women may be able to pull it off better than others. It's too bad...

Great input from our Lady Mod!

Tend to agree with the RM, with curved sides perhaps looks more slender and elegant on a Lady. May appeal to some who have sporty lifestyle. Thanks Ping. Kong

I admit - I love this watch. And would wear the white one.

It really appeals to me in design and execution. The details of the minute track require some more consideration, but as a specialty watch from a high-level house this is one of the most interesting and attractive ones I've seen in a long time. Cazalea

For me the version WITH the minute track seems to be more coherent

Perhaps I'm infected with the love of a busy dial being a chrono lover, but the original without the minutes seems a little contrived? Too much focus on a rather literal interpretation of the "engine" theme.

I have just fallen in love with the OnlyWatch color variation :-)

I was truly impressed when I first caught sight of the EoT and was very close to pulling the trigger. Then I tried to categorize it: was it a dress watch? Not really. A sports watch - again not in the truest sense. It's a special ocassions watch! In the en...

Nice

I personally wouldn't wear the white one, but I know my special lady would.

have to say I prefer the 2010 version

 By: playtime : September 13th, 2011-10:26
but the case as well as the details really make for a strinkingly bold watch. It feels both avant garde yet refined--a balance rarely attempted let alone achieved.... J

OMG! I've not been around a while and now
