President's Challenge Charity Luncheon 2008 Formula 1

The President Challenge Charity Luncheon sanctioned by Formula 1 Management as the only official event of the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix Night Race.
The distinguished guests invited were the past and present Formula 1 world champions, current drivers and team principals, and a host of international celebrities.
The main point for this post was the L.U.C. Tourbillon Tech Twist with silicon escapement ( for details of the watch, please click here ) was offered for sale at auction. The proceeds from the sale of this special L.U.C will be donated to appointed charities.
The auction started late at 2:30pm. At the close of a very short auction, the watch was sold for SGD220,000 (approximate USD154,000).
I felt it was not a respectable price for a Unique Piece which was not even a pre-production unit.
The auctioneer seemed to be rushing through as the highest priced item ie. this L.U.C piece and ended it within 1 minute and 13 seconds!
Enough said.... just a short post of the afternoon.....
Arrived at the Istana (the official residence of the President of Singapore where he receives and entertains state guests. Istana is a Malay word for 'Palace') like about 11:20am. The check-in process was stringent, the cars were parked at carparks like half a kilometer away. Then the guests have to go through metal-detectors and then being ferried to Istana.
I did not bring my camera, so the following pics were taken with my mobile.

Mr. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard Co-President and his wife Christine Scheufele with Maxime Labey (Managing Director of Chopard Asia) arrived very early, just after 11:35am.
The hall was slowly filled... and another hall was also used.... understand there was a total of 600 guests.

At about 12:30pm, the emcee announced the arrival of President S R Nathan & his wife, Mrs Nathan. A path was cleared...

12:40pm, Luncheon to start....moving to the venue opposite the waiting hall.
Military Officer/s were present to ensure the event went smoothly.
Guests were quickly seated.
The meeting of the racing enthusiasts , Mr. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele with Sir Jackie Stewart.

Hotelier Mr Ong Beng Seng (owns Singapore GP Pte Ltd) went around greeting the VIPs.
Later the drivers came in and were introduced to the President.
Mr Ong Beng Seng gave the opening speech.
Lunch then served.
More drivers arrived....only the extreme left, Nico Rosberg.
About 2:30pm, the bidding cards were handed out to the guests.
